Artist Staement Bio
Joseph Filak is best know for his high octane impact art that explores the lexicon of contemporary American. He creates a into a rich conceptual juxtaposition in which the viewer is expunged of standard notions of contemporary life. Filak dispells the cultural bias plaguing our society. While exploring these avenues from his wide array of personal experience from his time in Cleveland Ohio. Part owner of the legendary Riot 101 Record store and his own solo gallery Blacklist Gallery,Filak has forged a style of post industrial America all his own. Filak has shown in the US at venues such as The International Dirty Detroit Show 5,6.7.8.10 with many contemporaries in today’s low brow culture. He has had a Solo Show at The Sculpture Center prior to his BA graduation. Born in Northeast Ohio, Filak attended Cleveland State University and received a BA on full merit tuition scholarship. He then went on to The University of Notre Dame on a full merit tuition scholarship and earned a MA. He is currently pursuing his MFA at SUNY New Paltz in upstate NY.
